This image is mainly done using photo-manip with a bit of 3D for good measure. I'm not making a statement, just trying something a bit different.

This can be bought as a limited edition print here [link]

I'm curious. Would I be correct in assuming that this is mostly 3D? An M1 overlayed on top of the female head. And I'm almost not sure about the jacket, but it doesn't quite seem photographic, so I'm assuming that it, too, may be a 3D model.

Her face seems a little too... sterile? Lifeless. Almost scared or "petrified," but at the same time, sad. But... again, at the same time, there is no real emotion, aside from that perceived from the tear. Idunno. Maybe the fact that her face is shiny from the 3D model further emphasizes the... robotic-ness, and thus lifelessness, of her.

Blahhhh, idunno. I'd say I like the concept, but you say there is none. No message.

But that's just me.

I think you've got a good grasp of the image. It's an experiment with photos and 3D. The helmet and jacket are photographic and the face is 3D with a photograph overlaid for colour and tone. I agree, using 3D does makes it less expressive, but you get a very high amount of detail which is the trade off.

Ahh, I see. The added lighting on the helmet, plus the 3D flower, make it seem like a model. I still have no idea what to think of the jacket. xD

Ha. And if I really want to be hypercritical, I could point out that her chin strap should be completely vertical, if not perhaps folded over on itself, thanks to gravity. I'd pull out my combat helmet to compare it, but I don't feel like digging through my closet and unpacking the box that it's in. :I
